Uncle Tom’s Cabin Still Speaks 160 Years Later

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:05 am by msweet42

I just finished reading “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”. Like most of my contemporaries, I’ve always known the basic outline of the story but actually experiencing this book from the 1850’s in an Early 21st century context is surreal.

I knew Stowe took a strip out of Southern slave owners. I did not know how seriously she took Northerners to task for their hypocrisy regarding African-Americans.

An uncomfortably good deal of what she said 160 years ago rings true today.
